Guardian Program

Our guardian program allows our breeding dogs to go and be part of a loving family as would their brothers and sisters, returning to us occasionally to be mated (boys and girls) and then again to whelp (when the females have their puppies).

The benefits of participating in our guardian program include:

  • Guardian puppies are offered at a greatly discounted rate of 50% of the cost of their non-guardian littermates, which is taken as a security deposit and refunded to you at the completion of the program. When the guardian dogs are in our care they are treated as one of our own with the utmost love and care.
  • You get the pick of the litter essentially for free.
  • You help our beautiful puppy parents have a normal life with a family where they are loved and a special member of the family just like their littermates.
  • If a guardian to a female dog you get periods of free babysitting – it can be a good time to plan a holiday for your family or some other activities that are difficult with a furry companion in tow.
  • When their breeding days are done, or should they not get the test scores required to participate in our breeding program, they are desexed at our cost, your initial payment is refunded and the guardian contract is ended, permanently released to live out their days with your family.

The General Terms and Conditions of participating in our guardian program.

On agreement to becoming a guardian family a contract is issued which sets out the full terms and conditions of the arrangement, however the main points are summarised below:

  • Guardian families must be willing to have the guardian dog return to us for short periods of time during their breeding life.
    • For males, their stays back with us are more frequent but are only for a very short amount of time (usually only a few days, sometimes as little as one.)
    • For females they come to us approximately a week after coming into heat (but can come a little earlier if you wish) and return to you after being mated, then come back to us approximately a week before their litter is due and stay with us until the puppies are weaned.
  • Guardian families must live close by and be willing to deliver the dog to us and/ or our vet when required.
    • Male guardian families need to reside within the Canberra and surrounding areas and be a maximum 1-hour radius from our property.
    • Female guardian families need to live within a 2.5 hour radius from our property. Sometimes we may be able to meet you halfway or pick up from you, however if this is not possible guardian families must be prepared to deliver the dog to us.
  • Providing they pass all of their health tests and are determined suitable for breeding, the females have a maximum of 3-4 litters for us. Males are typically used for a longer period of time than females, however we like to diversify the genes and not overuse any one dog so it is not excessive by any means.
  • You must agree to the requirements of the program and to provide the level of care and nutrition set out by us (worming, vaccinations, routine and any other required vet care, and feeding requirements).
    • All breeding associated costs including checks, screening and other associated vet care as required and desexing at the end of the program is borne by us.

Guardian dogs are currently poodles and groodles. If you are interested in becoming a guardian family please let us know if you have a preference for breed and sex.
